Interview with Ada Chio de la Cruz – the winner of Marketing and Communications Hotelier of the year in 2014.
You were the recipient of a Hotelier Award in our 2014 edition. What path has your career taken since winning that award?
I am thrilled and honored to be recognised by key opinion leaders in the industry for my contributions to the development of tourism. This award has definitely built confidence and certainty in my career. Since 2014, I’ve been continuously focusing on the regional role of PR and Communications at Mandarin Oriental as Regional Director of Communications, North Asia. In early 2017 I then moved into a new chapter, as Vice President – Destination Marketing & Brand Strategies at Grand Lisboa Macau.
Did being the winner of the Award open any doors or create any opportunities for you?
Certainly. The award has brought recognition and attention from the region, however, the most precious recognition is the trust and confidence amongst people from within the industry, as well as expanding the hospitality and tourism network across China and Asia.
What advice would you give to those applying for The Hotelier Awards this year?
Never think you are too junior to join the awards as it is more about what you are best at in the position you have and in the department or field, rather than how senior you are in your role. The Hotelier Awards provides a great opportunity not only to recognise senior management in hospitality but more importantly the people whom have contributed the most; the unsung hero award is proof of this.
