What was the initiative behind The Hotelier Awards?

We started The Hotelier Awards in 2014 after realising there was a gap in the travel industry. It has advanced significantly over the past few years and continues to develop at an unprecedented rate across Asia. However, only a small community of young talents choose this field as a path to develop a career and many individuals miss out on incredible Asia-wide job opportunities. We created The Hotelier Awards as a platform to tell the stories of these successful hoteliers and inspire the younger Asian generation. Moving forward, 2017 will see some exciting developments and some partnerships with the leading hospitality universities across the region to increase the platform’s footprint amongst the youth in the region.

How does the expansion of The Hotelier Awards into new regions impact the 2016 edition?

The expansion into the ASEAN region brings significant value to The BMW Hotelier Awards. The travel industry is experiencing impressive growth in this area, which is particularly fueled by the development of the outbound Chinese market. It is wonderful to welcome an array of new cultures and talents to the Awards. We are looking forward to announcing our first ever ASEAN winners come December 15th.

What are you looking forward to in 2017?

In an attempt to provide a solid regional coverage throughout Asia, we are currently working on our expansion into Japan and South Korea, creating the North-East Asia competition. The travel industry in these areas is very healthy and is managed by some of the most talented people in the field. We are excited to soon be able to share the stories of these talented hoteliers!
