The Hotelier Awards were established by Riviera Co. Limited founded in 2007 located at Unit 903-905, 9/F, Kowloon Centre, 33 Ashley Road, TsimShaTsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong and represented by Co-Founders Benoit Thebaut and Stephane de Montgros (hereafter referred to as « Organising Company » or « Organiser»). The Hotelier Awards is a set of hotelier competitions namely «The Hotelier Awards Greater China», «The Hotelier Awards ASEAN», «The Hotelier Awards North Asia», «The APAC Corporate Hotelier Award» and «The Rising Star Award», etc.
The rules and regulations of these competitions are described hereafter.
The organisers have created The Hotelier Awards as a platform to celebrate the hard working professionals of the hospitality industry. The focus is to recognise their achievements and inspire younger generations to pursue career opportunities in the hospitality industry. These international competitions are an opportunity for hoteliers and hospitality students to promote their exemplary achievements in the following categories:

The Hotelier Awards North Asia
The APAC Corporate Hotelier Award
The Rising Star Award
* Public Voting, refers to the public exclusively electing the winner through online voting, without any influence or interference from The Judging Panel.
3.1.1 Except for The Rising Star Award, the competition is open to employees (hereafter referred to as «Candidate») of all Hotel Groups / Hotel Chains / Independent Hotels / Franchised Hotels / Residence Hotels, who are currently employed in Greater China (the Greater China competition includes Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao & Taiwan), in ASEAN (the ASEAN competition includes Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, The Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Myanmar and Brunei) or North Asia (the North Asia competition includes South Korea & Japan). The candidate must have held his/her position for a minimum of 8 months before June 30th.
3.1.2 The Rising Star Award competition is open to all hospitality students from the top ten (10) selected Hospitality Schools across Asia. These candidates must be in their final year of studies.

To participate in these competitions, candidates must complete the application form available at: www.hotelierawards.com
The application process is free of charge.
5.1.1 All applications, expect those for The Rising Star Award, will be submitted to six (6) of the hospitality industry’s most recognised professionals, appointed by The Hotelier Awards as the Judging Panel for the competitions. The applications are completed and presented to the Judging Panel online through the official website, www.hotelierawards.com. The candidates must respond to all the questions in the application form in English. One high-resolution picture of the candidate and one high-resolution logo of the brand they are working for must be sent with the application form when applying.
5.1.2 All applications for The Rising Star Award will be submitted to the school’s faculty. The school’s faculty will select the top three (3) applications and nominate them to the Organising Company. The top three (3) applications from each Hospitality School will then be submitted to The Rising Star Judging Panel for review.
5.2 Candidates expressly grant the Organising Company the right to use the logo of their brand on the following website; www.hotelierawards.com
This website is accessible worldwide.
All candidates guarantee that the applications they submit contain no elements that are injurious, defamatory, counterfeit, xenophobic, homophobic, anti-Semitic or defy good morals, etc.
The candidates are able to submit their application over a three (3) month period that falls between April and July for all Awards. Participation in The Hotelier Awards competitions implies full acceptance of the present regulations with no reserve.
6.1 The public may attend the Awards Ceremony by registering with the Organiser or online at www.hotelierawards.com up until and including the day of the Awards Ceremony. The rate to attend the ceremony is CNY1,680.00 per hotel operator participant, CNY3,360.00 per non-hotel operator participant. The hotel operator rate is applicable to anyone working in a hotel management company or hotel owning company. All other participants will fall under the non-hotel operator participant category. As soon as the registration form is duly signed, payment must be received upon receipt of invoice from the Organiser. Payment may be made by bank transfer/credit card/UnionPay/AliPay/WeChat Pay. Registration is personal and non-refundable, however the attendee can be replaced by one of his or her colleagues.
6.1.1 The finalists of The Rising Star Award will be invited to attend the Awards Ceremony free of charge.
6.2 Due to limited seats, the Organising Company cannot guarantee that all requests will be accepted. Priority will be given to candidates and hotel operator participants. Both participants in the Awards Ceremony and candidates accept the unrestricted use of their full name, position, city of residence and photograph during the Awards Ceremony and for ten years following their participation in the Awards Ceremony. Use of these details may be through both online and offline channels including but not limited to the Organising Company’s website, social media platforms, press releases, print media and online media. The materials in connection to The Hotelier Awards competitions will be accessible worldwide and for ten (10) years following the participation in the Awards Ceremony, with no reference, payment or compensation.
7.1 The Judging Panel for The Hotelier Awards consists of six (6) high profile professionals from several prestigious organisations, which focus on the travel, publishing, education and digital industries as well as public service. The selection of both the finalists and the winners of each of the awards will be made by six (6) judges in total (listed below), four (4) of which will be judging all candidates from all competitions. The other two (2) judges will only focus on one or two competition each; one for Greater China and one for ASEAN & North Asia, making a total of five (5) judges for each competition. The APAC Corporate Hotelier Award is the only award that will be chosen by all six (6) judges.

The Organising Company reserves the right to withdraw one or more categories from the competition(s) if the number of candidates for this or these category(ies) is not sufficient. In this case the Organising Company will inform the relevant candidates of its decision to retract the category. Candidates that have submitted an application to the retracted category may be shifted to another category. The Judging Panel also reserves the right to move a candidate from one category to another if they agree that the application is more suited for an alternative category.
7.1.1 The Judging Panel will gather in September to select the finalists for The Hotelier Award competitions, for the following categories:
7.2 The Rising Star Judging Panel
The Rising Star Judging Panel for The Hotelier Awards consists of five (5) expert hoteliers from several prestigious hotel brands. The selection of both the finalists and the winner of The Rising Star Award will be made by the following Judging Panel:
7.3 The members of the Judging Panel and The Rising Star Judging Panel are selected only by the Organising Company and cannot be contested.
7.4 Most Popular Hotelier
For this category, the finalists and winners for each competition will be explicitly elected through public voting found at www.hotelierawards.com
8.1 The determination of finalists and winners for the above mentioned categories under 7.1 follows a two-step process.
8.1.1 Round one: Selecting the finalists
The individual judges will review the applications and select their individual top six (6) candidates. The complete Judging Panel will then meet to examine the applications presented and reach a consensus on the top five (5) finalists in all The Hotelier Award categories for all competitions.
Once the finalists has been decided by the Judging Panel, the Organising Company will officially announce the top five (5) candidates for each category and competition.
8.1.2 Round two: Telephone Interviews and selecting the winners
During the time period between the announcement of the finalists and the Awards Ceremony, the finalists, inclusive in the categories: Rooms Hotelier, Food & Beverage Hotelier, Chef Hotelier, Owner Representative, The Unsung Hero, Concierge Hotelier, Sales & Marketing Hotelier, Human Resources Hotelier, Finance Hotelier, Technology Hotelier, Wellness & Spa Hotelier and Corporate Hotelier, will undertake a telephone interview with a representative from the Organising Company. This interview will be transcribed and shared to the Judging Panel. The telephone interviews may be conducted using the native language of the candidate.
The Judging Panel will then review the aforementioned transcriptions and decide the winners based on a scoring system (detailed in 8.4).
8.2 The determination of finalists and the winner for the above mentioned category under 7.2 (The Rising Star Award) follows a two-step process:
8.2.1 Round one: Selecting the finalists
Each judge on The Rising Star Judging Panel will review the applications and the finalists will be decided based on a scoring system (detailed in 8.4).
Once the finalists has been decided by The Rising Star Judging Panel, the Organising Company will officially announce the top five (5) candidates.
8.2.2 Round two: Telephone Interviews and selecting the winners
During the time period between the announcement of the finalists and the Awards Ceremony, the finalists of The Rising Star Award will undertake a telephone interview with a representative from the Organising Company. This interview will be transcribed and shared to The Rising Star Judging Panel. The telephone interviews may be conducted using the native language of the candidate.
The Rising Star Judging Panel will then review the aforementioned transcriptions and decide the winner based on a scoring system (detailed in 8.4).
8.3 The determination of finalists and winners for the above mentioned category under 7.4 (Most Popular Hotelier) follows a two-step process.
8.3.1 Round One:
Between the 22nd July and the 11th September the public is able to vote online for the candidates, at: www.hotelierawards.com. The website showcases a picture of the candidate together with his/her title and company. The public have one vote each per email address across all the competitions that can be cast. Fake or invalid e-mail addresses will be removed from the voting. In order to give the public an opportunity to follow the voting, the website will provide a regular update of the current top five (5) candidates, together with their individual percentage of votes received. The top five (5) candidates that have the most votes before the deadline will qualify for round two.
8.3.2 Round Two:
After Round one, the five (5) finalists, for each competition will be announced and the voting system will be reset.
From the 12th September to the 11th November, the public are able to vote online for the top five (5) finalists, for each competition. The public are allowed to cast one (1) vote per email address across all the competitions. On the day of the Awards Ceremony, the winner of each competition will be announced.
For this category the decision from the public voting will not be deliberated and will be final.
8.4 Scoring system
Scoring will be carried out as follows:
In case of a draw for 1st place, the finalist with the most three (3) point scores will be chosen as the winner. In case the two finalists have the same amount of three (3) point scores the Judging Panel and The Rising Star Judging Panel will proceed to another vote to decide between the two finalists.
For the “General Manager” category, the finalists for all competitions will undertake a face-to-face interview with the complete Judging Panel on the day of the Awards Ceremony. The winner of this category for each competition will be chosen by the Judging Panel on the day of the Awards Ceremony. If a finalist for this General Manager category cannot attend the face-to-face interview they will be removed from the competition and will not be able to win the Award. The winners will be determined through the same “Scoring system” detailed above. All the point scores will be collated and the winners for all the competitions will be determined.
For all the categories above, the results will not be discussed and will be final.
9.1 The winner of each category across all competitions will be presented with a trophy. This prize has no monetary value.
9.1.1 Internship program – The winner of The Rising Star Award will be granted an internship program at one of the top five-star hotels worldwide.
9.2 The finalists for each category across all competitions will be presented with a certificate. This certificate has no monetary value.
Candidates and participants of the Awards Ceremony authorise the verification of their identity by the Organising Company and all information on the application form. Submissions that are incomplete and/or provide incomplete or false contact information will not be taken into consideration and will result in the candidate being eliminated from the competitions.
In the event of a candidate changing property during the judging process, the property in which the candidate was employed by at the time of application will decide if the candidate can move forward in the competition or if they should be withdrawn from the competition.
The Organising Company will not be held responsible in any way should it be forced to cancel the Awards Ceremony, due to force majeure or events beyond its control. Moreover, it reserves the right, within legal limits, to extend or shorten the candidate deadlines or change conditions. Additions and modifications to these regulations may be made. They will be considered as amendments to the present rules.
Personal data of participants and candidates in the competitions will be collected and handled electronically for the sole purpose of the organisation of the Awards Ceremony. Each participant and each candidate may exercise their right to access, rectify or remove data concerning them by sending their request by email to the Organising Company.
